About this deal

The piece of equipment the other end of the wire from the plug determines what size of fuse is required, not what the pug itself can take. So as you say if originally it was three amp then it was three amp for a reason. That reason is likely to be that it is specified either on the equipment ident or in accompanying info.

Fuses for cars function as protective devices for the many electrical components in modern vehicles. I live an a very old house with many different electrical systems. As a condition of my household insurance I had to have the house electrics upgrade to a modern standard. I engaged Bright Spark for the complex project. My experience of their service was that they are a highly professional company who completed the work on time and on budget. However, and just as importantly, the work was carried out with consideration and care, sadly a rare occurrence in today's society. I have no hesitation in recommending Bright Spark to my friends.

Hi, as already explained both r good ideas, plug would be easier, if u change for switch furs spur , u would have to test ring continuity, ect which gets technical! 2018-01-12T17:45:01+00:00 Whilst it is handy to know how to wire a plug it’s not something you’re going to need to worry about if you use us for your portable appliance testing, as we’ll do it for you. Even if you don’t use us for PAT, if you need a plug rewiring, we may be able to come do it for you. It’s bigger than in other countries on purpose; the designer didn’t do that to annoy or frustrate – its size makes it safer, how? Fuses are very simple components. Inside each is a thin metal strip or wire called a resistor that forms a link in an electrical circuit. A number of different metals are used to make resistors. Tinned copper wire is a popular choice. This is copper which has been coated in a thin layer of tin to protect against corrosion.

Dividing the power rating by the supply voltage will give you the current drawn by the device. You can then fit the closest fuse greater than the result.A mains plug takes a 25.4 mm (1.25 inch) BS 1362 fuse, these fuses are available from any local supermarket or DIY store. They are cheap so don’t risk stealing a fuse from another appliance just to get your appliance going, unless you are using a fuse of the same rating.

Fault protection, by automatic disconnection of supply in the event of a fault of negligible impedance within the appliance, or, within the cable. A fault would be an "inadvertent" connection between line and protective conductors. This will disconnect the supply via the fuse in accordance with the short circuit disconnection time of the fuse, (again a function of current and time). Each coloured cable has copper wires inside because copper is a good conductor of electricity. The outer layer (what we tend to refer to as the “wire” is flexible plastic, as plastic provides good insulation; this wire is commonly referred to as the “ flex“; short for the “ flexible cable“. Everyone should understand the basics of a correctly wired 3-pin plug, and also be able to recognise any errors. If you don’t then this guide is for you.

The size of fuse depends on the appliance or equipment that it is feeding.

An electricity cable (or flex) used for connecting an electrical appliance to the plug will usually contain two or three wires wrapped in coloured insulation. These are commonly called “ two core“, or “ three core” cables; not to be confused with “ twin and earth” which is the term used for mains wiring cables, although there is no real reason why the terms can’t be interlinked. Kettles have a wide range of wattages depending on if it is a slow boiling kettle, or a rapid boiling kettle. I’d just buy a 3a fuse and use a plug top safest and cheapest way, if there’s a fuse spurs there just change the fuse in the carrier to 3a once the cables been correctly wired in (by a competent person) 2018-01-10T20:35:02+00:00 Step 3: Now you need to open the new plug using your screwdriver and the central screw. Unscrew it to open the plug and put the plug top to one side. Using your smaller screwdriver unscrew but don’t remove the small terminal screws of the pins. As modern day living has progressed and technology improves, lightbulbs are changing over to LED. A lot of the LED lightbulbs are 5 W (that’s one 20 th of a hundred watt lightbulb) so a calculation for this would be:
