About this deal

During testing, the Honeywell Quiet Set Whole Room Tower Fan stood out for its user-friendly control panel at the top; we found the easy-to-understand symbols made the display easy to use. We also appreciated the quiet operation. During testing, all five speeds—power cool, refresh, white noise, calm, and sleep—were quiet enough to function as white noise, if noticeable at all. On the lowest setting, sleep mode, we only heard a very low hum. The highest-setting sound was more noticeable but we did not find it to be disturbingly loud. Pedestal fans: Pedestal fans usually have wider blades than a tower fan, and offer better power. This means they are better at circulating air than tower fans. But as pedestal fans have wider blades, they usually require more space. These fans also allow you to control the direction of the air-flow easier without having to readjust the whole machine. However, their increased power usually means they are more basic looking, noisier and come with less features than a tower fan. They are also less safe around children and toddlers who often poke their fingers into the blades. So, you should invest in a pedestal fan if you value power over aesthetics and gadetry. You can buy a tower fan from most home and garden retailers, supermarkets and DIY stores. But, you better get in early. These handy pieces of tech are hard to come by when the heatwave hits, so it's good to buy yours ahead of time. Try the following retailers:

Most tower fans are relatively simple to operate. If you want the very best, then there are a few important features to look out for. This fan includes a remote control with a magnetic storage feature - simply put the remote on top of the fan and it will stay put with a magnetic grip, even while the fan oscillates. When using the remote, you need a clear line of sight to the base of the fan to get any response, which can be quite annoying if there is furniture in the way. Dyson TP07 Purifier Cool Purifying Fan: A close competitor to the LG PuriCare AeroTower Air Purifying Fan, this Dyson model also purifies the air that it circulates. It has a bladeless design with a modern aesthetic, and compared to the LG model, it has a smaller footprint. Unfortunately, I found the airflow to be slightly too diffuse; you couldn’t really feel the air movement at a distance of more than 6 feet away.Tower fans are an economical choice to keep your home or office cool - plus, they don't take up too much space in your home.

While many tower fans pretty much look the same, what’s inside those tall sleek bodies varies greatly—some offer smart features, while others boast ample speed settings, and so on. Therefore, it makes sense to start your search by identifying the factors that are most important to you. Carl Prouty, tech expert at Abt Electronics, suggests you evaluate any model you’re eyeing by asking yourself the following questions: “Does it fit well into the room? Do the features match up with your needs? Does the cost fit your budget?” With those tips in mind, here’s everything else worth considering while shopping. Settings Finally, it’s worth looking at the practicalities. Is the cable long enough to place the fan where you want it? How stable is the fan on its stand? Some tower fans we’ve tested have been surprisingly wobbly, and while they tend to be less prone to falling over than your average pedestal fan, you still want to know it won’t tip over at the slightest provocation. The Dyson AM07 oscillates up to 80 degrees, giving you wide coverage. While other oscillating fans do have a higher range, the design of this tower fan offers more coverage with less movement. The bladeless design makes it incredibly safe, which is ideal if you have children or curious pets that are likely to touch the fan.Dimensions: 41.7 x 13 x 13 inches | Settings: 6 speeds, plus Sleep, Auto, Natural and Normal settings | Timer: 1 to 12 hours | Remote: Yes | Oscillation: Yes; 90 degrees | Noise range: 41.9 to 51.9 decibels The settings are clearly marked on the control panel – relax, calm, whisper – you will never have a problem finding the right setting for your needs at any given moment. This fan is not the most powerful fan we tested, but it is great for a small- to medium-sized room. Most tower fans will circulate air in a room which will have a cooling effect without actually lowering the air temperature.

Key specs – Dimensions: 54 x 15 x 14cm; Weight: 2.4kg; Oscillation angle: 90˚; Cord length: 1.6m; Warranty: 2yr; Power: 18W Unlike most tower fans, the Vornado Tower 184 is a circulator, which means it doesn't oscillate to get better coverage of a room. It must be placed strategically to produce ideal airflow in a room. This means you will feel a stronger air flow across the room than immediately by the fan. During our lab testing, the Better Homes & Gardens 3-Speed Tower was our best overall fan in any shape or style due to its quiet operation, strong airflow, and budget-friendly price. ( Better Homes & Gardens is owned by The Spruce's parent company, Dotdash Meredith.) And out of all of the tower fans we tested, this is the only one to offer internal oscillation, a feature meant to help keep the fan more stable, since only the insides rotate, and to provide more range of motion. It also teems with other features, including a magnetic area on top of the fan to store the remote; a 7.5-hour programmable timer; and an LED control panel that turns off after a minute, so you're not disturbed while you sleep.Off our original price. The Seville Classics UltraSlimline is easy to use and performed well in our tests. It is one of the more affordable tower fans in our lineup, and it was one of the best performing fans in our power tests. We got good airflow right in front of the fan and all the way across the room. Timers are great for when you want to turn a fan on before going to bed, or before leaving your house. A turn-off timer will allow you to set a specific time for when your fan will turn off, whereas a turn-on timer will allow you to pre-program the time that your fan turns on - this can be great for when you want your house to be nice and cool when you return from work or from a grocery run.
