About this deal

The T3•R’s hostname has been changed to the product name to make it easier to identify on a network.

The T3-R would show ‘No Signal’ for channels after performing a Smart Retune if the delivery system of their multiplex had changed. Add a facility to disable automatic tuning updates during the overnight housekeeping routines. If disabled, advise the user that re-tuning is necessary, but allow the user to skip/ignore the need to re-tune whenever the PVR is woken from standby. The existing channel database should not be modified. When playing an ongoing recording immediately after using an interactive service like Channelbox (channel 271), if you fast forwarded to the live point and then tried to pause or rewind live TV, the error message 'This function is unavailable with interactive services' would be shown incorrectly. The ‘Watched’ status of recordings would fail to be set when a recording was played to the very end. On the 3 series, you could search for the name of a programme or film, and see results for it on the catch-up apps listings – that is, whether it’s available on BBC iPlayer, All4, etc. When pressing the S/AD button, the availability of Subtitles and Audio Description status is now shown based on the broadcaster’s signalling instead of the PMT. This can still be inaccurate if the broadcaster signals incorrectly, but in our testing it is more accurate than the PMT. Disable the network link if the PVR is in standby and the aerial loop through facility is being used.

As with every Freeview device, the number of channels it can find depends mainly on your aerial and on the Freeview signal and reception in your house. Once the scanning is finished, it’ll jump straight into Channel 001, which is, in most cases, BBC 1. Therefore, the T3 was discontinued a couple of years ago – and the T3-R has been recently discontinued as well. We’re told, however, that once the T4 series is released – support for the T3 series will continue, with some new features potentially coming from the T4-R to the T3-R as well. Manhattan’s Freeview History Your T3 will update automatically overnight whilst in standby, as long as you haven't disabled automatic updates in the System Settings menu. After the T3•R had been on for more than 48 hours the internet could stop working until you went to the Internet Settings menu or restarted the T3•R. When content in an app (e.g. ITV Hub) was regionally restricted the error message made it sound like there was a problem with the app or T3. The message now clearly states it is the content that is unavailable. I agree @Clem_Dye - the T3-R is probably the best PVR I've ever used too. Simple, intuitive, responsive and incredibly quiet. It makes my old Sky Q box sound like it's powered by a diesel engine! ITV Hub could fail to open when playing deep-linked on demand ITV programmes, e.g. from the TV Guide

The following changes are from v1.01(the original launch release). Please note that v1.02 to v1.22 were not released publicly. Resolved HDMI-CEC support: when you turn on your T3-R it can now turn on your TV and change it to the right input and go to standby when you put your TV in standby. You can also choose to put your TV and any other connected devices in standby when your T3-R goes to standby. Go to: Settings > System > HDMI Options. Setup is refreshingly straightforward: just hook up the PVR to a network connection and store channels. (Manhattan sent us two boxes to test the Wi-Fi performance after our original review encountered issues with it. We’ve concluded that the issues in the review were down to interference, and that the box offers solid enough connectivity.) Our suggestion would be to hard-wire the network connection if you can, to avoid any weak Wi-Fi connectivity or wireless interference. The usual features you might be used to on your Sky/BT/Virgin Media box – such as pausing live TV for up to two hours, initiating series links and making one-touch recordings – work like a breeze. There’s a dedicated button for Freeview Play on the remote, which takes you to the main apps menu, and a “Recordings” buttons where you’ll find all the programmes/series you recorded. The remote can also be used as a Smart Remote, by teaching it your TV’s basic functions – on/off, volume control and input selection. The T3 would show ‘No Signal’ for channels after performing a Smart Retune if the delivery system of their multiplex had changed. The T3-R includes Manhattan TV’s unique Watchlist feature which allows viewers to store all their on-demand TV choices in one place, regardless of which player they come from. The PVR also supports 4K Ultra HD and HDR (HDR10 and hybrid log-gamma) from YouTube and iPlayer respectively. As expected, SD channels are more compromised – but, again, what you see is what you’d have viewed live, so no complaints here. It would be nice to have some sort of on-box confirmation that the PVR was recording, however. The Manhattan T3-R comes in two versions, one with a 500GB drive, and the other 1TB. The former, as featured here, has a recording capacity of 300 SD hours. Familiar recording niceties include series-linking and live pause. Performance
