a b Morris, Steve (May 19, 2017). "For Artist Irene Koh, Legend of Korra OGN Is A Very Personal Project". Comic Book Resources. Archived from the original on August 5, 2018 . Retrieved July 15, 2017. While the miniseries’ villain leaves much to be desired, the minor conflicts prove much more interesting and developed. Raiko’s flailing grasps at maintaining power butting heads with Zhu Li and Asami’s dreams of a future for Republic City are entertaining and give a satisfying conclusion to Raiko’s arc left dangling through the television series. The still-rebuilding Air Nation’s increasingly active role in the development of Republic City and the Spirit World’s increased presence is an exciting direction for the setting.

Inherent in the System: While the comic blames specific villains for the Fire Nation's anti-homosexual policies (i.e., it was all Sozin's fault), it applies a more realistic take to the Earth Kingdom: there, it's simply the conservative and conformist culture in general that isn't accepting of any such deviations from its norms, irrespective of evil overlords. Even Avatar Kyoshi, who is now said/rumored ("by all accounts," according to Kya) to have entertained same-sex liaisons herself, proved unable to effect change on this point—despite otherwise defeating whole armies, instituting the Dai Li and generally being the power behind the throne in her time. I Have Your Wife: Asami gets captured at the end of Part 2 by Tokuga, who uses her to keep Korra from interfering in his conquest of Republic City. Part 3 is about the couple working together to rescue her in the Spirit World. Danoff, Mara (August 21, 2017). "Before You Buy Legend of Korra: Turf Wars". ComicsVerse. Archived from the original on August 4, 2018 . Retrieved August 4, 2018. W]hat we have, it's kind of like the spirit world—it's special and rare. And not everyone is going to see it that way.❞ These well-meaning but clumsy attempts from DiMartino extend beyond Turf Wars’ queer themes and into the script itself. While The Legend of Korra had an all-star voice cast with the likes of Janet Varney, JK Simmons, and Seychelle Gabriel to bolster occasionally weak dialogue with fantastic performances, Turf Wars can only present the words as written. Conversations and monologues can sometimes feel clunky and awkward as a result. Thankfully, Irene Koh’s art is both expressive and detailed enough to help minimize the damage from these moments.a b Lovett, Jamie (August 26, 2017). " 'Legend Of Korra' Shows Korra And Asami's First Kiss". ComicBook.com. Archived from the original on August 3, 2018 . Retrieved August 3, 2018. Production notes [ ] Transcript [ ] Main article: Transcript:Turf Wars Part One Series continuity [ ] Out of gratitude to Korra and Asami for saving his life, Keum gives up his claim to the land around the spirit portal, ending the conflict with the spirits. At a party in support of Zhu Li, Korra reconciles with her father, who chooses not to let his people's traditions influence his behavior towards his daughter. Zhu Li later wins the election in a landslide victory, and as she gives her victory speech, Korra and Asami observe the new spirit portal and admit their love for one another.

When about to leave the Spirit World, Korra recalls the time Asami took her race car driving in " The Aftermath". I'm in a bit of a comic mood this year and, well, since I love this world I decided it was not a bad idea to continue with some more Avatar for now and see what our sweet characters have gotten themselves into. Empowered Badass Normal: After his spirit induced mutation, Tokuga gains a powerful tentacle arm and becomes faster and stronger.Recommended to 'Korra' and non-'Korra' fans alike. To people who love fantasy - spirits, dragons, fantasy action, a diverse array of female characters; as well as race and queer representation this is a dream come true for me - and to people who desperately want to see a glimpse of a bright, hopeful future. For children are our future. Disagreeing with Tonraq's advice for extra precaution, Korra storms off with Asami, waving off her father's apology. Korra asked Asami if she remembers "when we first met, and you took me racecar driving", though Korra first met Asami at the gala Tarrlok had thrown in her honor. a b Nicholson, Max (July 10, 2015). "Comic-Con: The Legend of Korra Graphic Novel Series Announced". IGN. Archived from the original on August 5, 2018 . Retrieved August 3, 2018.

As expected, Tonraq and Senna are excited to see their daughter again, not in the least because they expected their vacation to last longer than it did. He asks if the girls are alright, causing Korra to respond that they are fine and Senna invites the girls over to dinner. As they sit down to enjoy dinner, conversation starts out a little stiff, as Korra is still a bit hesitant, before she finally comes out to her parents and tells them about her newfound relationship with Asami. Tonraq and Senna are definitely excited and happy for them, but do council caution about telling everyone, with Tonraq saying it is best to keep her personal life private. Korra dismisses it, but Senna mentions how not everyone will be as understanding as they are. Tonraq tells her that she should not get ahead of herself, saying sometimes she gets too excited, causing Korra to call him narrow-minded. Asami decides that it is probably best for them to leave, which they immediately do. Tonraq still tried to apologize to his daughter, but she waves this off. Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: Lin is unwilling to go after Keum without hard evidence because he's politically connected. Book Ends: Downplayed, but the series begins and ends on the start of a new stage of Korra and Asami's relationship, both of which involve the new spirit portal. It starts moments after they entered the portal and became a couple, and ends with them watching the portal and having just admitted their love for each other. Heather Campbell (cover artist), Michael DiMartino (writer), Irene Koh (interior artist), Vivian Ng (colorist), Nate Piekos (letterer), Paul Reinwand (layout artist). Following the conclusion of The Legend of Korra, DiMartino was touched by positive reactions to Korra and Asami's relationship and felt that there were more stories to tell with the show's characters. Although the shift to the comic book medium was a challenge for DiMartino, it gave the creative team more freedom to explore LGBT narratives. The series was announced in July 2015 and The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars – Part One was published by Dark Horse Comics on July 26, 2017. Part Two was published on January 17, 2018, followed by Part Three on August 22, 2018. Part One and Two were the publisher's best-selling graphic novels of 2017 and 2018 respectively. A library edition collecting the three volumes was released on March 13, 2019.
