About this deal

Some homemade remedies and even commercial record cleaning fluids contain isopropyl alcohol as one of the main ingredients. As a rule of thumb, if you can smell the alcohol, it is undoubtedly too much. Curious to see how a surfactant could improve the result, I added a drop of GrooveWasher’s G-Sonic concentrate to the water tank. G-Sonic is a surfactant and emulsifier blend that helps aid the cleaning process and break water surface tension.

The Tonar Knosti Disco-Antistat Ultrasonic vinyl washing machine combines high-tech ultrasonic cleaning with the proven goat hair brush system. This ensures gentle, groove-deep cleaning of your records and an audible improvement in the sound image. During operation, the special anti-static cleaning fluid is permanently clarified by a filter system and dirt particles are filtered out to minimise impurities in the fluid and thus achieve the best possible cleaning result. Notes:For heavier cleaning needs, choose the *Two-Step G3 Record Cleaning Fluid. It's the same formulation as GrooveWasher's One-Step G2 Fluid with one important difference: An increased surfactant concentration for greater power to get down and do the dirty work! Only time will tell over the coming months whether or not the HumminGuru replaces my Pro-Ject cleaning machine or not. Watch this space as I continue to test the machine with vintage vinyl finds.Ultrasonic cleaning works through high-frequency sound waves transmitted through liquid to scrub clean the surface of immersed parts. The high-frequency sound waves agitate the liquid solution, and cause the 'cavitation' of the solution's molecules. Cavitation means that bubbles are formed when sonic energy creates a void (or cavity) which gets trapped as a bubble in the liquid. G2 does not fix scratches or scuffs. Once the signal in the microgroove is lost, nothing will recover it. GrooveWasher does offer G3 Fluid for heavier cleaning needs. G3 is a more powerful formula that does require a rinse with GSR Super Rinse or distilled water. Many collectors sing the praises of ultrasonic cleaning for its ability to deep clean vinyl records without the need for brushes to scrub the surface physically. The process has long been popular in the jewelry industry for cleaning tiny cavities.

The microfiber cleaning pads should be cleaned regularly and occasionally replaced for best results. The downside of cloths for cleaning vinyl records is, of course, that a dirty cloth or pad could spread dirt and dust to the next record you clean. To ensure this isn’t the case, regularly remove the pad and clean it by applying dish soap and distilled water. Massage the pad and thoroughly rinse it, followed by a squeeze to remove moisture. Allow it to air-dry overnight before using. It’s worth investing in a few copies of the removable velcro pads so that you can rotate and clean them regularly. The Bottom Line NOTE: Photos showing the SC1 Stylus Cleaning Brush are for illustration only. This listing is for the 15 ml SC1 Stylus Cleaning Fluid only. The GrooveWasher walnut handle is shaped to accommodate specially designed, velcro attached cleaning pads for heavy cleaning and for fine cleaning, intended to clean one record at a time, just before play. In the last 2 years alone, the company has introduced an impressive amount of new products, from their stronger G3 formula for very dirty records, to a brand new surfactant fluid designed to aid ultrasonic record cleaning baths. Additional Record Cleaning Pads

The HumminGuru is a well-designed machine when you consider the price point. Does it perform as well as competitor machines costing thousands of dollars? Perhaps, in reality, this is an unfair comparison. G-Sonic is a special ultrasonic wash formula that offers a more pure and focused blend of additives than can be commonly obtained off the shelf. This is a gentle proprietary blend of surfactant and emulsifier. The result is greater groove penetration for a superior ultrasonic cleaning.Type of Record Cleaner: Record Cleaning Machine | Pros: Improves record cleaning results and makes light work of batch cleaning | Cons: The vent position on the smaller VC-E could’ve been better placed During the cleaning cycle, I did notice a fair bit of water surface tension. You could see how the water sat on the record surface and struggled to penetrate the groove. The HumminGuru did succeed in significantly improving the sound of this record, albeit I would say you need the surfactant to unleash the full cleaning power of this machine.

Notes:One of the best solutions for 7"/10"/12" record cleaning, HumminGuru's ultrasonic approach automatically restores your records, cleaning and drying within 7 to 15 minutes per disc. Simple, easy to use and effective. In terms of results, I’ve reviewed both the G2 record fluid and the SC1 stylus cleaning kit extensively in the previous articles linked, respectively. For this review’s purpose, I will keep it brief and refer to the earlier articles. One 8 ounce bottle of G2 Fluid with spout top. Use to refill the 2 ounce and/or 4 ounce mist spray bottle. 1,000+ mist sprays in this 8 ounce bottle. Being UK-based, I’ve tried plenty of the manual cleaning options available this side of the pond (namely, Clear Groove and Vinyl Revival), but until now, I’ve been unable to test any US equivalents directly. I would like to thank the folks at GrooveWasher for changing all that by kindly sending me their starter kit in the mail.
