RapidCool™ makes one feed at a time as it needs cleaning and sterilising between uses. We have designed the RapidCool™ so that you have the flexibility of feed sizes between 90ml-240ml (3oz-8oz) as your baby grows. There are seven measurement markers located inside the flask between 60ml and 240ml. Sophie: As a mum this product saves me precious time while out and about with my babies. I don't need to wait for a bottle to cool or find a cafe to leave the bottle in cold water while the baby screams. It makes transitioning to bottles at night alot more simple too as I can take the unit, hot water and formula up to bed and pop it on my bedside table for when my baby wakes up. Would you recommend this to other parents? Formula preparation machines are marketed as being a sterile and convenient method of preparing formula feeds at the correct temperature for consumption, within minutes. Whilst the scale of use of these is not known, recent research at Swansea University suggests that 50% of families are using preparation machines (Grant et al, 2023). When instant hot taps are used to make up infant formula, boiling water will be dispensed directly into a bottle. Current advice to leave boiled water to cool for no more than 30 minutes when making up formula milks is based on 1 litre of water being boiled in a kettle and left to cool in the kettle, with the aim that the water is still at a temperature of 70˚C or above when the powdered infant formula is added. Can I mix formula with the boiled water immediately or do I have to wait for the water to cool down to 70°C? There’s no denying that preparing a fresh formula feed when you’re out can be stressful. From making sure you have access to boiling water, to then cooling it down to the perfect temperature, there’s a lot to plan. Using water at a temperature of around 100⁰C is acceptable from the perspective of killing bacteria in the powdered formula, although it will also kill probiotic bacteria in formula containing these as an added ingredient. Never steam sterilise in a microwave. The thermos flasks were both warmed for 1 minute with boiling water before use and the flasks were stored at an ambient temperature of about 19 oC. The tests were conducted three times, with each time test completed on a freshly stored batch of boiling water.
