About this deal

Exploring the Agave Fields of Oaxaca: While my career commenced with a focus on Scotch and Bourbon, life’s adventures have led me to the picturesque agave fields of Oaxaca, Mexico. This brand is owned by William Grant & Sons, who owns prestigious brands like Glenfiddich and Balvenie. Andrew Torrance, managing director of Copper Dog, said: ‘The brand idea for Copper Dog started at the hotel, but we always had aspirations for wider distribution. Due to the regulations governing Scotch, whisky cannot be considered a single malt since it requires production at a single distillery. Monkey Shoulder facts: When comparing Copper Dog to Monkey Shoulder blended whisky, it’s clear that both offer a unique and complex flavour profile with subtle nuances from the malts sourced from various Speyside distilleries.

Monkey Shoulder also pairs well alongside creamy desserts such as ice cream or crème brulee – bringing out the sweet undertones of the whisky without overpowering other flavours. Blended by master blender Stuart Morrison, the whiskies included in Copper Dog have been aged in a mixture of refill American and European oak casks, first fill Bourbon casks and rejuvenated casks, before being married in hogsheads. Both Copper Dog and Monkey Shoulder are excellent Speyside blends, however, each whisky has its own unique characteristics which makes them great options for different occasions. Copper Dog’s intensity may be too much for some palates, so those looking for a smoother drinking experience may enjoy Monkey Shoulder’s lighter yet still complex taste instead. Aside from the fact they are both from Speyside they are both named after aspects of the whisky industry in a nod to their heritage. Additionally, Copper Dog is often paired with cheese boards due to its flavour profile of dried fruit and malt tones. To achieve this goal, Monkey Shoulder blended a unique combination of no fewer than three single malt whiskies – Glenfiddich, Balvenie and Kininvie – from Speyside distilleries owned by William Grants. The blend is then married for up to six months before bottling at 40% ABV, resulting in a smooth and creamy taste with hints of berry fruit, toasted barley, cloves, butterscotch, Manuka honey and hot-buttered-toast.Monkey Shoulder is an accessible whisky, making it an excellent choice for Scotch newcomers seeking an approachable and affordable option. Both Copper Dog and Monkey Shoulder offer great value for money, given that they are both priced almost identically. Both whiskies contain carefully sourced malts from Speyside distilleries, creating an intense flavour profile full of complexities. PALAT:-E Rich creamy mouthfeel, toffee apple, caramelized sugars, soft fruits, and a gentle wood presence. With water, fresher fruits become more pronounced on the nose {Bramley apple, Conference pear}, alongside grape skin, green pear, and more wood spice. Subtle, distant spices help carry the fruit and vanilla characters, giving a long and Fresh creamy finish. Copper Dog scooped Double Gold at the 2020 San Francisco World Spirits Competition - one of the oldest spirit competitions of its kind, running for nearly two decades. The Copper Dog whisky is eponymous with the pub in which it was conceived, located in the Craigellachie hotel. The hotel is situated at the heart of the scenic Speyside valley of Scotland and offers luxurious stays and fine-dining experiences. The Copper Dog Pub and the Quaich Bar are said to have a selection of over 1000 whiskeys to choose from, which is enough information to get me putting some funds aside and plan a trip!

The name ‘Copper Dog’ comes from an old device made from copper tubing with a penny soldered to one end and cork in the other, which was used by distillery workers to smuggle whisky home. It is also the name of the bar at the Craigellachie Hotel. You are responsible for all activities through your account.
