Laser Measure – This mode worked well with no issues. Being able to use the foldable stand was a nice benefit, especially for vertical measurements because the device is stable and will stand up that way without the need to hold it in place, as long as the surface is flat. The device was able to measure beyond the stated range of 82 feet, and when I compared the length measurement to my Bosch GL M, and at 80 feet, the measurements were within 6″ of each other. A shorter measurement of about 6 feet showed that the two tools were within about 1/4″. This is my simple room map in AutoCAD which would allow me to develop a more detailed drawing of the room. Since the imported lines are not perfectly straight due to measurement inaccuracies, I’d use AutoCAD to modify the lines, or use the scan lines as a template to develop the drawing. What I likeAfter one minute, the laser measure goes to sleep mode. This requires exiting the laser measure mode by pressing the power button and restarting the laser measure. This is way too short and should be user-definable even if it affects battery life. The measurement function that I wanted to perform was a simple square room, on the first attempt I found that the measurements were off. I made sure to follow through with all of the instructions. Placing the device nice and level moving everything out of the way that would get in the way of the corners I re-measured. The measurements were a little closer. I chalked this up to user error. As I continue to practice, the measurements got closer and closer I decided to give it a test of a harder room, like what you see in the illustrations, and in the video. My room is a square with a pull out, looks like a hammer, I attempted to measure the walls and leave the pull out for last. There wasn’t a good way to get the device to capture where the pull out hallway is. Pro-Laser Area Mode – This will calculate the area of a rectangular area based on two measurements. This mode of operation worked well with no issues.

Meazor 3D will capture the measurements for a multi-room scan up to 40m (131ft) and its '3D Tilt Mode' means it can easily navigate around any obstacles already in the space, such as furniture, to return an accurate measurement of the room. The vertical orientation also means that room height can be captured as part of a scan, with '3D Displacement Mode' allowing the user to move freely around the space while the device captures and auto-stitches all the edges of the room. Results can be exported to four common CAD file types and then easily imported for use in blueprints and the like. Accuracy is superb – within +/-2mm. You can adjust the measuring point from the front, rear, stand and tripod. It will measure in metric (mm, cm and m) and imperial (inches, feet, yards) and fractions. Scale ruler REVIEW – I previously had the opportunity (several years ago) to review the Bosch GLM 50 C laser measuring tool. Six years later, it still works great and it is my go-to laser measuring tool. But considering that it might be time for an upgrade, I jumped at the chance to try the MEAZOR 6-In-1 Compact Laser Measure tool made by Hozo Design. Bosch is the gold standard when it comes to small laser measuring devices, so I am interested to see how the MEAZOR “measures up” to the Bosch (pun intended). What is it? Point Scanner – This mode utilizes the tripod and allows creating a point by point 2-D scan of a room by rotating the device. The scan can be exported from the device to the app. The main screen is a drawing grid (screenshot on the left above) that can be used to manually create diagrams, or modify imported scans (from the Point Scanner or Curve Scanner modes). Some rudimentary drawing tools are provided to allow modification to the imported scans. By selecting the unit label on the main screen (“Inch” in this case), a dropdown menu appears that allows changing units (middle screenshot above). Selecting “New Project” on the main screen brings up a window that allows creating a new project (right screenshot above). Once the new project is created and named, that project name will appear at the top of the main screen. Performance

Hozo Design launched its first digital rolling ruler – Rollova – in 2018. It has sold more than 10,000 in 30+ countries A lot of functionality – such as the above – is routed through the Meazor app, as it was with the original device, so you will have to use the app to, for example, export captured data. It is an unfussy, effective app – updated to 2.0, to accommodate Meazor's new 3D smarts – that performs its functions well, though, so it's no headache.

Meazor 3D remains physically unchanged from its 2D sibling. It's stainless-steel frame is still pleasingly compact (approximately 100mm x 54mm x 21.3mm) and reassuringly flexible (retaining and building on 2D's 6-in-1 multifunctional laser measuring skills). The six core functions are a point scanner, scale/rolling measure (built using a long-lasting 4096-grade magnetic encoder), laser measure, curve scanner, protractor and spirit level. If you select metric, the laser measure defaults to millimetres. Many may prefer to set a default in metres. The transfer button to the phone was really easy to use. I was able to manipulate my image after the fact, but this defeated the purpose of what I was trying to get it to do, this was a big con for me. Level – This mode works well, although you have to start by placing it on a level surface to calibrate it. It is possible that your calibrated surface is not perfectly level, which will result in all of your measurements being off. I suppose you could use an actual bubble level to help calibrate this tool, but that seems to kind of defeat the purpose, doesn’t it? Best with a tripod to create reference points for 2D floor plans. You can also use tilt mode to take off ceiling heights. There is a displacement mode for odd-shaped rooms. I would recommend it for those, who want all those other devices in an all in one. After fully charging the device, half way measuring through my fifth room. The laser dot was very hard to see then started giving me an error that the laser wasn’t readable. I had to exit completely out of the drawing that I was doing, losing everything and start from scratch. Currently, V1.7 for Google Play and Apple App Store the App adds value to the manual processes. It also connects via Bluetooth and is for firmware upgrades.
