About this deal

Sir Mark Jones FRSE served as Assistant Keeper of Coins and Medals at the British Museum from 1974 to 1990, later becoming Keeper of Coins and Medals until 1992. It is not an understatement to say that Mark was one of the most professional, respected and well-liked leaders in our sector. Tributes have been paid to a "perfect" dad-of-two and huge Manchester United fan who has died following a battle with cancer. I know he was a very important friend, guide, mentor and support to many people, both within our Council and outside it, and he cared very deeply about our staff, our Councillors, our Council and our city. He was the perfect dad and did everything he could for his daughters. He was so funny and had so many friends. I miss him terribly.

Matt Jukes, Chief Executive of Hull City Council, said: “Mark’s passing is a huge loss to our organisation and a very personal one to many of us. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this incredibly sad and difficult time. Mark is a tenacious advocate where necessary and extremely persuasive in both written and oral submissions.” Today, Jones is one of ESPN’s prominent play-by-play commentators on two of its highest-profile properties: the NBA and college football. Jones is regularly paired with top ESPN analysts, including Curt Gowdy Media Award-winner Doris Burke on the ABC NBA Sunday Showcase franchise.Councillor Daren Hale, leader of the Labour Group on Hull City Council, said: “It was a privilege to work alongside Mark, who was a Council Officer with humanity, integrity and vision. From a personal perspective, I worked closely with Mark for over 20 years, most notably on the ‘Green Port Hull’ scheme, which led to the development of Hull’s wind turbine blade factory. Without Mark, this would not have happened. Councillor Mike Ross, leader of Hull City Council, said: “Mark Jones was an ever present at Hull City Council. I could list many, many projects, investments and jobs created in Hull that only happened because of his hard work, and they all stand as testament to his ingenuity, expertise and commitment to Hull. Many people refer to him as “Mr Hull”, and I think that is what he was.

Tributes have been paid to Hull City Council’s Director of Regeneration Mark Jones, who has died following a short illness. Mark's mum Rita said the family had been left "devastated" by his tragic death. "He was the kindest lad you could ever wish to meet," she said in an emotional tribute. "We loved him. That will be the case "until the independent review into the thefts at the museum has concluded", the museum said. Julie works with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. Speaking to the M.E.N. last month, he said he hoped to explore treatment options so he could live long enough to spend Christmas with his family. However, after taking a turn for the worse recently, he was admitted to Salford Royal Hospital where he passed away last Tuesday. In short, Mark stood for all the best things that public service represents. He will leave a huge hole in our organisation and he will be very sorely missed.” Mark, who worked for Hull City Council since 1996, was awarded an MBE in 2016, in recognition of his dedication and commitment to economic regeneration and inward investment in Hull.

A substantial element of Mark’s practice is located in the North West, and he is always ready to travel out of London. The heartbreak across Stretford and Urmston this morning is enormous. You were so loved by so many and will leave a massive gap. RIP Jonesy. You were one of the best." Mark Jones, from Urmston, passed away last Tuesday (March 22) - weeks after being told he had just months to live. The 46-year-old leaves behind his wife Sarah, daughters, Sadie and Poppy. Rita praised the nurses at the hospital for the support they gave to her son in his final days. "They were the nicest nurses you could ever wish," she said. "They treated us like royalty." She looks at the connections between mind, body, and spirit–maintaining a philosophy of caring and compassion, coupled with enthusiasm–to empower people to look deep within to find their inner strengths and build upon them.
