One thought, and it has probably already been considered, is custom minis. You have six distinct adventurers, so why not give them distinct minis? Yes, there are colours, but a pair of flippers on the diver, a little map in the explorer’s hand, or a shovel for the engineer, would be simple yet effective. Sat on the shelf in my FLGS, Forbidden Island instantly jumped out. Not only for its fantasy-style cover design and its foreboding title but also its metal tin! No bent edges, no dog chewing, no drinks spilt on it, definitely a win for us.

Sammy has a past that included childhood abuse as well as domestic abuse with her ex-husband. Her traumatic history has shaped how she reacts to her environment, her relationships, and to her own feelings. She gains strength over the course of the book and heals as Sawyer surrounds her with his love. The Repeated Sibling I’ve decided to appoint my amazingly hot best friend as my primary bodyguard and telepathically discourage him from dating me because I’m starting to suspect he has a serious crush on me. (My closest buddy has a crush on you, not my brother. Quit acting so erratically. This book owns my whole heart. Pretty sure I have a new favorite book boyfriend (sorry, Cort Amos. You’ll need to share me with Sawyer). Give a Treasure Card. You can give a single Treasure card to a teammate who is on the same tile as you as an action. You cannot give special action cards.

Another notch on the old bedpost in my ongoing quest to read every bodyguard romance I can. This had some worthwhile plot points like the inclusion of therapy for the FMC, but tbh the MMC could have used some therapy as well. I don't think he had truly dealt with his military service or near death experience. It was nice to read a story where the FMC took charge in the bedroom, up to and including a spicy epilogue where a flared base came in handy for the MMC. You don't see much of that in many of these stories that feature a muscled ex-military bad boy type. So bravo to the author for that. For Forbidden Lands, it seems to have a lot procedural mechanics to generate encounters and exploration. I have not played D100 Dungeon so I cannot compare. These add-on rules add solo roleplaying to Tales, trying to keep the rules-light feel while maximizing the amount of mystery in playing the game.

I am considering doing some videos on how to use solo rules to play these games. I am just not sure if there would be much interest. Does anyone watch solo play ‘actual plays’?

Though I cannot think of any other games to directly compare it to, there are alternate versions of the game, Forbidden Desert, and Forbidden Sky, both of which look to have a slightly different slant to the base game. We would probably buy both of these games in the future. Sawyer has been in love with his best friends little sister for over a decade and will never forgive himself for not saving her from the abuse she suffered. He’s waited years for her but he won’t let himself have her. She’s not ready and he can’t have his best friends sister. I was cheering Sammy on throughout the book as she recovers from her traumatic past. (I really would like the number to her therapist, kthnx). I love her inner monsters and fully visualised them as the emotions from Inside Out; I saw 100% Horny Monster as Anger with longer legs (don’t come @ me pls). She’s strong willed, determined and a total badass and I want to be her friend. Crew Anderson had been out of jail for a year and he was determined to clear his name. He had been framed for a crime he didn't commit and he was going to find the evidence he needed. He needed to keep those he cared about safe from the criminal elements as he got closer to the truth. Grecia Stephens was at the top of that list. He was smitten by her and he wanted to be good enough for her to accept him but he was sure she would never fee he was what she deserved. Sammy is a very well balanced heroine. She's got a traumatic past and is in therapy for it (Bravo!!! Too many authors traumatize characters and never get them actual help). She's not going to be a victim anymore and she trying to take control of her life. She's also a very stubborn, strong willed, brazen woman who doesn't let people boss her around. The entire book, Sammy felt very real and relatable, like someone I could be friends with.

Do you see a lot of oracle in the work? I may need to jump the train and get better at it and buy the booklet forbidden hero on drivetrhurpg. I already bought one (how to DM yourself which was inspiring).

There are four actions which you can take and you can take each action multiple times on a turn, including zero. You are also encouraged to discuss your turns with your teammates (but don’t force anyone to do anything; it’s cooperative, remember!) The action options are detailed below but there are some exceptions based on the character powers which we’ll discuss later: Same brother again – For having a ridiculously hot best friend, then assigning him as my primary bodyguard and telepathically forbidding him from dating me, even though I’m starting to suspect that he’s seriously crushing on me. (The best friend is crushing, not my brother. Don’t be weird.) The yes-no oracle uses the normal Zero Engine dice pool rules, with successes equating to yes answers, and the more yeses that you roll the more emphatic the answer becomes.
