About this deal

The Mother of Tears gives us a sure-footed, bolder Argento; taking us from one shocking moment to the next. To be fair, if you were compiling a list of Mother of Tears' many failures, she wouldn't be too high up. According to Varelli's memoirs, entitled The Three Mothers by an anonymous colleague, the architect learned too late of the women's evil nature.

Argento has noted that he is dismissive of critical reaction, saying that "the critics don't understand very well.A mother throws her baby off a bridge for no discernable reason (though narm in the form of a Special Effects Failure keeps it from being too brutal). I had only seen this movie once before on cable tv and I was very disappointed as I am a fan of the first two movies. As the original Freiburg building "Haus zum Walfisch" the Akademie bears a plaque stating that Desiderius Erasmus once lived there.

Variety 's Dennis Harvey wrote, "This hectic pileup of supernatural nonsense is a treasure trove of seemingly unintentional hilarity. On 27 May, a second promotional poster – featuring an eye weeping tears of blood – surfaced on the internet bearing only the title Mother of Tears. The sequel, Inferno, developed the overarching plot continuities concerning the three central witches when released in 1980. Workers excavating outside of a cemetery in Viterbo, a town near Rome, unearth an urn chained to the coffin of a medieval knight. The Cannes Film Festival requested that The Third Mother be ready in time for consideration as a 2007 competition contender. According to Father Johannes ( Udo Kier) in the third film, the battle left Suspiriorum "a shell of her former self". On the tenth of March it was announced that shooting The Third Mother would be delayed until September.

When we got there [Rome,] Dario had already done his own pass on the treatment, and we spent three weeks holed up in an apartment, meeting with Dario, visiting the catacombs, and getting the first draft done. Written by Argento, Jace Anderson and Adam Gierasch, the film is the concluding installment of Argento's supernatural horror trilogy The Three Mothers, preceded by Suspiria (1977) and Inferno (1980). In his earlier films Suspiria and Inferno this world is more or less confined to the houses of the witches but in Mother of Tears it extends to the whole city of Rome bringing with it sporadic violence and chaos. Claudio Simonetti composed the soundtrack for Mother of Tears, which was completed in early April 2007 after four months of work. There’s also the kind of supernatural/occult paranormal horror you’d expect from a film in this series too. And, again, it might not be “retro” but the film still feels like classic Dario Argento quite a lot of the time. According to reporter Alan Jones the audiences' reaction was mixed: the acting quality varied and the script contained too much exposition, but the cinematography was beautiful. Dario argento finally completed his mothers trilogy in 2007, ive seen suspiria, and inferno i recently saw, which was good but not brilliant, it certainly had that argento feel and look, Mother of tears, for me, not being able to remember suspiria, stands up really well, certainly next to inferno, it still has the english language, which i never fully understood, especially considering rome setting here and of course, italian charactors, but past that it works, its certainly gory too, with that argento touch.
