About this deal

While they all were a little unbelievable, Ava and Matt’s group of friends were definitely my favorite part of the book. However, they know who each other is in essence, just not trivial details like whether or not one of them is a vegetarian, or if they share similar taste in art (spoiler alert: they really, really don’t).

Twenties Girl, I’ve Got Your Number, Wedding Night, and My Not So Perfect Life, which was a Goodreads Choice Awards finalist for Best Fiction in 2017.At the retreat, real names and personal conversations aren’t allowed—instead, everyone wears linen kurta pajamas and goes by made-up names.

Ava and Matt have a whirlwind romance during a one week writing retreat where they’re not allowed to use their real names or talk about their personal lives. They had so much stuff to work through – I truly didn’t think this book would have a happy ending for a while! It’s a joyful, hilarious, and heartwarming tale of the challenges we face when we sign up to be part of someone else’s life. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing – it definitely adds to the humor of the novel – but at times, it just felt like a lot. Bob Johansson has just sold his software company for a small fortune and is looking forward to a life of leisure.Ava decides to go by Aria, and she quickly meets Dutch, who joins their group after his martial arts retreat is cancelled. Overall, I had a pretty good time reading Love Your Life, but my frustration with Ava kept me from enjoying the story as much as I wanted to. As one mishap follows another, it seems while they love each other, they just can't love each other's lives.

Packed full of her witty humour, Kinsella's latest will leave you giggling all the way to Christmas! In 2014 she published a Young Adult novel Finding Audrey about a teenage girl with social anxiety and her madcap family, and in January 2018, Sophie published her first illustrated book for young readers about the charming adventures of a mother-daughter fairy duo, Mummy Fairy and Me (also published as Fairy Mom and Me). There is a great mix of characters in this, and I have to say I've not encountered Matt's family business before, and half of me would have liked to know more. I hope this book makes you laugh, cry, find optimism if you’re struggling… and long to be at the beach.Ava hates his industrial flat filled with creepy artwork, and Matt can’t stand her run-down place filled with “rescue books” and upcycled furniture that tends to break. A humorous exploration of family life, finding love and the difficulties of coming into one’s own as a young professional woman . Ava’s group of friends is tight-knit and even features representation for those with serious (but sometimes invisible) health conditions (her friend, Nell, has lupus). She’s determined to finish writing the novel she’s been fantasizing about, even though it means leaving her close-knit group of friends and her precious dog, Harold, behind. A much-used word, karma is loosely understood as a system of checks and balances in our lives, of good actions and bad deeds, of good thoughts and bad intentions.
