About this deal

Altogether, delivering on play and display ensures that beyond what is a noteworthy play feature, 76408 12 Grimmauld Place is a set with the same longevity for both aspects as any other LEGO Harry Potter set. Molly Weasley wears a striking flame yellowish orange dress, with intricate patterning across both sides of the torso and her legs. We do get three of the new brooms, in two colors, with Harry and two of the members of the Advance Guard that accompany him to Grimmauld Place for the first time after the Dementor attack in Little Whinging.

Compare that to LEGO Star Wars which is 23 years running (without a seven-year hiatus) and the depth and breadth to which they have mined dozens of tie-in films, television shows and even expanded universes. There's Slytherin's locket (the object of the trio's infiltration), a bumblebee in Arthur's brief case for some reason, and a Time Turner in Thicknesse's briefcase. I often post separate photos of some of the small mini-models because they look amazing by themselves. The neighbouring room is remarkably empty, only containing a pair of skulls beneath trans-clear domes and a candle. or Regulus’s full name, since that provides a key clue for Harry, but the Slytherin locket (and Horcrux) is hidden above one of the windows in Regulus’ room.gets a bit more detailing, adding the bigoted portrait of Walburga Black and its somewhat ineffective curtain, the troll-leg umbrella stand that Tonks often knocks over (waking said portrait), and a small desk with a bowl and lamp. In Bag 4 we build the ground floors of Number 12’s adjacent properties including two ornate lamp-posts flanking each building. Both of these scenes take place in their own massive rooms in the basement level of the Ministry, and there's no room to put minifigures with them anyway, so they feel quite shoehorned in. Moving swiftly onto Bag 5 we create the first and second floor of Number 12, the exterior is nicely detailed and the interior has a rather grand piano on the first floor and a rather spooky second floor which has two heads on display! The barrel piece is also new in Sand Blue in this set, representing part of a troll-leg umbrella stand, which will no doubt also prove popular in mech and engine construction.

Grimmauld Place is a long-awaited and much-anticipated LEGO set, yet also one that none of us would have anticipated arriving in the form that it has. The designer did well to include so many details in such a small area especially the two dummy buildings. This set has a great figure count, nine in total: Sirius Black, Kreacher, Nymphadora Tonks, Kingsley Shacklebolt, Ron Weasley, Molly Weasley, Fred Weasley, George Weasley and of course Harry Potter. I love the work that LEGO does by taking source material with human figures in it and adapting it to minifigure form instead, and this is a great example. This iDisplayit clear display is made in the UK using 3mm acrylic and is designed especially to house the LEGO 76408 model.

It is the same colour the troll had in the 2002 Harry Potter set – Troll on the loose (set 4712) as seen below. It doesn't totally capture the feel of the Ministry of Magic from the films, and the interiors are way too cramped.

This room also contains another instance of a set suggesting you pop something off to play with alongside the actual set, being the little stove build. Sirius Black used to be quite rare, but in recent years we’ve seen him numerous sets, but always in his prisoners clothes. This is the first version with him in “normal clothes” (though I did design my own version a few years back). When it comes to Molly, she’s not that as rare anymore as she used to, but I do like this rather colourful version of her.Meanwhile, they gave Hermione and Harry new prints for their un-polyjuiced faces, yet printed an existing bemused one for Ron when he could've used a new one too (perhaps depicting painful agony after splinching). Despite this, investing in these sets can be profitable over the long term, as they are likely to increase in value due to their rarity.

LEGO, the LEGO logo, the Minifigure, DUPLO, the FRIENDS logo, the MINIFIGURES logo, DREAMZzz, NINJAGO, VIDIYO and MINDSTORMS are trademarks of the LEGO Group. One of the most important aspects of 12 Grimmauld Place is the fact that, to the non-magical world, it simply does not exist. We also wanted to share some recently retired Harry Potter Sets that haven’t performed so well, we have Set 75966 LEGO Hogwarts Room of Requirement was released in December 2021 and currently is showing no growth though this is likely to increase in years to come. All-in-all, I am pleased LEGO went to the lengths they did and provided us with all of these new characters to re-enact the Ministry infiltration, despite several bothersome details and the fact that few of them besides Umbridge and Arthur Weasley play that much of a role in the Harry Potter story overall. Ideally, they would move with each building, but something needs to remain static and provide a base.Fred Weasley and George Weasley are among the characters gathered at Grimmauld Place when Harry arrives. Nymphadora Tonks has also only appeared once before, but this version impresses with more elaborate printing, including on the legs, and a pig snout from when Tonks is joking with Hermione and Ginny showing her Metamorphic abilities. Tonks comes with an alternate piggy face and red hairpiece to demonstrate her magical abilities, and her regular face looks much more Tonks-like than her previous one.
