About this deal

Kiersten White has created such a perfect world, giving egyptian mythology an exciting spin but also presents interesting information about the mythology which her main character also gives a funny spin on in turn. Because she could be your sister, your cousin, any one of a million teenaged girls out there, during those oh-so-troublesome teenage years. Alcohol abuse led to her mother’s losing her job, and Iris has dropped out of school and found work utilizing her writing skills at the Oath Gazette. It is through them that I learned who is who and what is what, which helped me feel less lost and enjoy the story more. One of the best things about this book, after all the egyptian mythology goodness, was Kiersten White's graceful writing.

All these positive words, however, do not discount the fact that I’m too annoyed at the prettiness of both the hero and heroine. Isadora's sick of living a life where she's only worthy of a passing glance, and when she's offered the chance to move thousands of miles away, she jumps on it. The build up to who was involved in all the lies and scheming was a bit of a let down and it ended very abruptly. Hiding the stress of her home issues behind a brave face, Iris competes for valuable assignments that may one day earn her the coveted columnist position.

Her life gets flipped, turned upside down (whoa…Fresh Prince moment right there…), after she finds out that she is not immortal. It’s like growing up with gods wiped out her brain cells and she behaves like a cardboard American teenager.

But doing what is easy and safe is no way to live, and a life without passion and love is so far beneath what you deserve.

However, when a childhood pet dies and her parents tell her it will join her in the afterlife, she realizes that isn't their plan for her. Isadora is happy about this because her mother has decided to have another baby four years before her typical pattern. Because I love this child for being mine, but I also love him for being who he will be, and I can’t tell you how excited I am to watch him discover that for himself. When Isadora is running away from Ry's stupid love confession she runs into her creepy half brother/cousin Anubis (his mom and Isis sister got sick of trying to get Set-her hubby-to sleep with her, so she pretended to be Isis and slept with Orsirus.
