About this deal

Using an old MacBook Pro 2012 Unibody as my main computer, I got tired of logging around the 80W power supply. I’ve been trying to sort out which of these options to get for the MacBook I just bought on a Costco Black Friday deal. Has anyone confirmed the charging speeds on a car charger such as the Anker one linked, without the 9V 2.

This 2-metre charge cable features a magnetic MagSafe 3 connector that helps guide the plug to the charging port of your Mac notebook. What I am looking for is to connect Thunderbolt Display power output (MagSafe/MagSafe2) to my MacBookPro 16’’ (2021) either MagSafe3 or USB-C port. While I understand the criticism, I consider it more of a feature than a bug, since there are times—hotel rooms while traveling, notably—when I cover overly bright LEDs with carefully placed socks.

AnyWatt MS is a great option to bring back the functionality of MagSafe and allows older users to recycle their old MagSafe adapters.

Equally gratifying was being able to grab a MacBook off the desk with the merest wiggle to detach it from power. Either the magnets aren’t quite as strong, or the “outie” design of the magnetic nubbin means that it’s more readily subjected to shearing forces that break the connection. I have noted that connecting all components along the "chain of cables" before plugging into the wall can positively influence the outcome. Happily, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has published rumors suggesting that Apple plans to bring MagSafe-like charging back to the MacBook Pro line when it releases the next high-end models based on Apple silicon. Features:Type-C to Magsafe 2 Adapter for Macbook Computer Quick Fast Charging Converter Connectors;Aluminium alloy housing,oxidation-resistance,durable and non-rusting;Its compact and lightweight design is easy to carry and use;Support 18.

I can’t say if MagSafe ever saved me from such a calamity, but I appreciated using it for many years across several MacBook models. The Mac will barely charge at all with the standard USB port and the displays USB port won't produce near enough power for the machine to stay charged while running let alone charge the battery.

Which means it will want 20v, and the charger will initially provide 5v, switching to 20v after PD negotiation. Using the external battery pack with a high PD value (probably greater than 85W) can maintain your computer alive almost 2X longer than with the normal battery pack. All that said, after a few weeks of usage, Tonya and I are happy with the magnetic charging nubbins on both of our laptops. The powering light on Magsafe-Connector is on and in the apple menu the battery loading symbol is active for a few seconds but the battery is actually not loading. I’m about to upgrade my old MacBook Pro and after more than one disaster narrowly averted by the ease by which a Magsafe charging cable can be pulled out, I’m loth to lose it.USB-C offers those capabilities with a generally well-designed connector that is both slim and bidirectional. Every week you’ll get tech tips, in-depth reviews, and insightful news analysis for discerning Apple users. Yes this might be a bit more unsightly than your current two cables, but should be simple to accomplish, and can be as easily well hidden as your current setup. But having the computer off with this system plugged in and then booting is always better than plugging in while the system is already on. Apple’s desire to move to a single jack that could do double-duty for power and communications was the beginning of the end for MagSafe.
