I was glad to have a stand, since there was no way Alyssa was going to be able to balance on her own while her boots were still stuck in her hair! As an aside, Monkfish noted that the artwork on this doll's dress looks eerily like the artwork of Miss Kika, who does indeed do artwork very similar to the figures on these dresses. The curlers aren't terrible but there's only 2 of them so getting all her hair curled would take forever and who's got time for that shit?

I read the CARU analysis, and while I still can't get too worked up over the makeup and hair issue, I'm sympathetic to objections that were made regarding the racial stereotypes portrayed by these dolls--especially in the first wave (the Black girl is into hip hop, the Asian girl loves anime, and the white girl is the scholar). Overall however, the look is fairly similar to other dolls once fully brushed as you can see in the pics. Regarding the rest of the arms, Mika has jointed elbows like Shizuka, McKeyla, and Skyler do, and jointed wrists like Shizuka, Riley, and Skyler do.Cleaned up the dolls are beautiful, really very stunning dolls, but in the box they look AWFUL and the lack of any real photos of the product on the packaging is NOT going to inspire confidence in the product.
