A very important message which is current and will be relevant for the duration of this technology-driven age. Mo believes himself to be a pedophile because he is attracted to his friend Si's prepubescent sister, Keisha. Chatroom was originally performed as part of the 2005 NT Connections season, produced by Boomerang Theatre Company, Cork and directed by Donal Gallagher.

Conversations range in subject from Britney Spears to Willy Wonka to - suicide: Jim is depressed and talks of ending his life and Eva and William decide to do their utmost to persuade him to carry out his threat. His plans are halted though when his computer and phone are taken away from him by his father, who when looking through William's computer, finds one of the suicide videos.A very thought provoking play, although I think I am going to have to either read the ending again or watch a staged version of it to fully understand. Undoubtedly, one of my favourite modern plays, Chatroom comments on the all too tangible reality of cyberspace bullying in a visceral, scary and yet somehow humourous way. When William gets it and comes back, Eva punches him and the rest of the crew comes, followed by the police.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. William Collins is a depressed teenage boy recovering from self-harm and regularly goes online to chatrooms. Whether that's putting new work on stages across the world or supporting our outreach and learning programmes, every purchase you make really does make a difference. Jim is another loner who is suffering from depression following his father leaving him and his mother. From this chilling premise is forged a funny, compelling and uplifting play that tackles the issues of teenage life head-on and with great understanding.I think some of the characters are a little too 1D and appear as devices for the story's advancement, however 1D characters aren't uncommon on the internet so I can let it slide. But when a new member joins to share his depression and thoughts of suicide, the conversation takes a darker turn. COVID 19: This production has been produced in line with current government guidelines regarding COVID 19.

Principal photography took place in early 2010 at Shepperton Studios in Shepperton, Surrey, [5] with some outdoor scenes shot in Camden and Primrose Hill. Even though they only really communicate through text, they are depicted in an old hotel-like room and actually having contact. A powerful depiction of modern-day isolation and the dangerous power of technology, Enda Walsh's play Chatroom formed part of the National Theatre's 2005 Connections season, an annual festival of new plays for youth theatres and schools. A group of keyboard warriors- nameless, faceless and masked by a computer screen find comfort in antagonist William. The film follows five teenagers who meet on an online chatroom and encourage each other's bad behaviour.but it also contains loads of excellent monologues, duologues and short scenes for classwork or exams. A great play nonetheless which is difficult to actually enjoy because of the nature of it, but Enda highlights the dangers of conformity and what can happen if a joke is taken too far. All of the characters have their own insecurities, their own ‘issues’ and they use an internet chat room to blow off some steam and express their thoughts of the world. The very last line pisses me off, but that aside this is a well written, through my provoking piece that shows off teen-angst but not in a way that makes it appear any less real. Conversations range in subject from Britney Spears to Willy Wonka to — suicide: Jim is depressed and talks of ending his life and Eva and William decide to do their utmost to persuade him to carry out his threat. It was good but I will have to say that I liked the movie better which I never say, but it would be interesting to see a performance of this. This serves as a chilling reminder of how people have the power to manipulate and influence those around them.Disclaimer/Trigger warning: This production contains adult themes and language from the very start, as well as references to suicide, depression and family trauma. The group is torn between those who want to help and those who see this as a chance to create a martyr for the teenage population. Regardless I think there is some really deep and interesting subject matter in this play and I am looking forward to re-reading as I use it for a school project.
