The info about the tabs is useful. There are 3 rusty 'bits' which I could not identify which I now know are the remains of the tabs. the heat shield now has a big hole in it where originally it had a small hole for the retainer's stud to pass through DISCLAIMER: fordownersclub.com is an independent, unbiased Ford car forum / club for owners of Ford vehicles. BRISKODA is owned and operated by Summit 360 Ltd, registered in England & Wales, company number 05710517. I was browsing around to find some cat related stuff and apparently there's a voluntary service recall on this heat shield for some 07-08 2.5 models.

Commonly used on Some Ford, Seat & V/W for underbody heat shields, noise insulations, bulk heads etc. I'm thinking about just replacing the bands with the adjustable bands you see on rubber couplings at Home Depot for joining ABS plastic pipe or cast iron pipe like the 3 or 4" bands. sorry to be bringing up an old thread, but I think my heat shield is rattling. I thought at first it was my a/c compressor since the rattle comes & goes and I thought that the heat from the a/c compressor was causing the rattle. As for them not being suitable because of the heat - if you're getting that high exhaust temps, the clips are the least of your worries! I scraped out all the iron oxide rust and the hole in the heat shield is a circle, like it has always been that size. The heat shield looks in good condition. I've got some washers that will cover it though.

Just found this. The hole in heat shield is bigger. Like the heat shield has been pulled out over the remaining clip. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=%23&ved=2ahUKEwjwvra2m7DkAhXIQUEAHdtmDGEQxa8BMAJ6BAgAEAY&usg=AOvVaw0VTJzWxrN8ZFOD4xbU2nov

Nightmare things, the amount of cars we see per year for rattles that are nothing more than heat shields that have dropped, most rot the actual heatshield and then it’s time for a big repair washer as most don’t want the cost of a new heatshield. As long as it’s at the rear of the car and not near the front, then ditching it in the main won’t cause you any problems, the biggest problem you get is the front ones that protect cv joints or steering uj’s as they then tend to fail prematurely. As for fitment, I guess they just push over the screw stud that is peeping out the heat shield, and has lots of rust on its surface? Fix depends on whether its the heatshield that's corroded away around the fixing, or the fixing that's corroded away or fallen off. If it's the former, just make a plate out of anything you like with a small hole in the middle and sandwich the heatshield under/above that. How do the clips come off? Just looking at mine now, it all seems ok so I don't want to break any of the plastic lug things taking the clips off. Recently I had the opportunity to easily get underneath my Note and noticed that some of the exhaust heat shield clips are missing from the rear section, presumably corroded and fallen off. The remaining ones seem to be OK.The heat shield has two little tabs that retain the washer/clip. Bend them down slightly to remove old and fit new.
