Just like cheese, veggies, produce, meat and pretty much all other agricultural products, the quality of honey can vary widely, with locally made stuff almost always being the best, in terms of flavor and environmental impact. Plus, cute though they are, those plastic bears on the supermarket shelf from China, New Zealand, Mexico and who knows where else, are never going to be able to match the nutritional power of honey harvested close to home, which can help ease common ailments, like allergies and sore throats. Only because she was spotted by Lucy. I’m sure she wouldn’t have told you if she thought she had got away with it. I’m afraid she’s a disgrace, my dear, and you should ground her for the rest of the holidays. In my day I would have been beaten for less.” The All-American Rejects 'Beekeeper's Daughter' by Isaac Rentz". Promo News. Archived from the original on 18 April 2013 . Retrieved 3 March 2012. The Beekeeper’s Daughter follows two story lines—Grace’s and Trixie’s. Were you drawn to one more than the other? How are Grace and Trixie similar? How are they different?

To a private concert they were giving in Cape Cod for a friend of Joe Hornby, who’s in the industry.”

Grace has a close relationship with her father, Arthur. How has he influenced her? Do you think she would have married Freddie without his influence? Sally cut in. “I daresay, but that Suzie Redford can do whatever she likes. There are no boundaries in that family.” When Jasper’s brother dies in a car accident, he must return to England. Jasper asks Trixie to wait for him. Grace cries when Trixie tells her the news, but for a different reason than Trixie thinks. Discuss why Grace reacts the ways she does? Belle, you always try to see the good in everybody. Surely even you must concede that Trixie Valentine has let herself down,” Evelyn insisted. “The fact is, she has not behaved like a lady. Ladies don’t go chasing boys around the country. They allow themselves to be chased. Really, it’s very distasteful.”

You open the novel with a poem about bees. Were you familiar with this poem before you wrote The Beekeeper’s Daughter? It is 1937, England is bracing itself for the possibility of war and young Grace Hamblin is getting married. Yet, as she is poised to pledge the rest of her life to Freddie Valentine, she is torn between her childhood sweetheart and the dashing aristocrat she knows she can never have, in spite of the ferocity of her love. The price she pays for doing the right thing is great and she carries her pain to the other side of the world, where Freddie, returned from war a different man, carries his own pain and a mighty secret. Fast forward to 1973 and we meet Trixie, Grace's daughter. She meets a boy in a band and they fall in love, they are promising each other to be together forever. Are her Trixie’s parents right to be concerned about her relationship with Jasper? Do you think their affair is true love or a summer fling? Why is Grace so protective of her daughter’s heart?

No, this poem was in a bee book I was given. I thought it was very sweet so I put it at the front of the book. I think the bees in my novel would have been fascinated by all the goings-on! When Grace returned to her home on Sunset Slip the sun had turned the sea to gold. She wandered onto the veranda with her two retrievers and gazed out across the wild grasses to the beach and glittering water beyond. She soaked up the tranquil scene thirstily. The sound that soothed her more than anything else, however, was the low murmur of bees. It filled her heart with melancholy, and yet that wasn’t an unpleasant feeling. In a strange way it gave her pleasure to remember the past, as if through the pain she remained in touch with the woman she had once been and left behind when she had set out for America all those years ago. Weighed down by memories, unaware of the secrets that bind them, both mother and daughter are searching for lost love. To find what they are longing for they must confront the past, and unravel the lies told long ago. ( From the publisher.) Grace and Trixie are very independent women and they love so fiercely. Was it important to you to create two strong women as the main characters? Dorset, 1933: Grace Hamblin is growing up on a beautiful rural estate. The only child of the beekeeper, she knows her place and her future - until her father dies unexpectedly and leaves her bereft and alone. Alone, that is, except for the man she loves, whom she knows she can never have.Oh, really, Belle Bartlett, you’re just fine,” chided Evelyn, tossing Grace a smile and scrutinizing her for signs of shame. “She’s just being modest.” Song review: The All-American Rejects - Beekeeper's Daughter".
