Results: number of true positives, false positives, true negatives, false negatives, adverse events. Positive symptomatology (increasing pain at night): burning, shooting, stabbing pains ± pins and needles The Semmes Weinstein monofilament examination as a screening tool for diabetic peripheral neuropathy.

The use of Nurofen Plus with concomitant NSAIDS including cyclooxygenase-2-selective inhibitors should be avoided (see section 4.5).TheIpswichTouchTest: a simple and novel method to identify inpatients with diabetes at risk of foot ulceration. Antidiarrhoeal and Anti-peristaltic agents: Concurrent use of Codeine with antidiarrhoeal and antiperistaltic agents such as loperamide and kaolin may increase the risk of severe constipation.

Systemic lupus erythematosus and mixed connective tissue disease due to increased risk of aseptic meningitis (see section 4.8 Undesirable effects). Risk factors for diabetic peripheral sensory neuropathy: results of the Seattle Prospective Diabetic Foot Study. Patients who have previously shown hypersensitivity reactions (e.g. asthma, rhinitis, angioedema or urticaria) in response to Acetylsalicylic Acid (aspirin) or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Most patients who have ingested clinically important amounts of NSAIDs will develop no more than nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, or more rarely diarrhoea. Tinnitus, headache and gastrointestinal bleeding are also possible. In more serious poisoning, toxicity is seen in the central nervous system, manifesting as drowsiness, occasionally excitation and disorientation or coma. Occasionally patients develop convulsions. In serious poisoning metabolic acidosis may occur and the prothrombin time/ INR may be prolonged, probably due to interference with the actions of circulating clotting factors. Acute renal failure and liver damage may occur. Exacerbation of asthma is possible in asthmatics.

There have been reports in the published literature that codeine given post-operatively in children after tonsillectomy and/or adenoidectomy for obstructive sleep apnoea, led to rare, but life-threatening adverse events including death (see also section 4.3). All children received doses of codeine that were within the appropriate dose range; however there was evidence that these children were either ultrarapid or extensive metabolisers in their ability to metabolise codeine to morphine. The adverse events observed most often are gastrointestinal in nature. Adverse events are mostly dose-dependent, in particular the risk of occurrence of gastrointestinal bleeding is dependent on the dosage range and duration of treatment. Ant-platelet agents and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs): increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding (see section 4.4).

Severe hepatic failure, renal failure or heart failure (See section 4.4, Special warnings and precautions for use). There is limited evidence that drugs which inhibit cyclo-oxygenase/ prostaglandin synthesis may cause impairment of female fertility by an effect on ovulation. This is reversible upon withdrawal of treatment. Calibrated Neurotip Test - Neurotips™ accurately assess reduced sensation to sharpness/pain in small nerve fibres. When used with Neuopen®, Neurotips™ ensure that a consistent force of 40g can be exerted safely onto the skin. Neurotips™ are supplied sterile for single use. Included: Screening and prevalence of peripheral neuropathy in type 2 diabetic outpatients: a randomized multicentre survey in 12 city hospitals of China. Scores are denoted as the lowest number of rods a patient can discriminate from rod (0) and this is the threshold value of the TCD test. For example, if the patient can only discern rods (5), (6), and (7) from (0), a score of five will be denoted. A score of six or higher is significantly correlated with neuropathy ( Maser 1997; Vileikyte 1997).are 18 years old or under and have had your tonsils or adenoids taken out to treat a sleep problem called obstructive sleep apnoea
