NZXT utilizes good VRM passive cooling for better stability. (Image credit: Rich Edmonds / Windows Central) You should buy if Recently we’ve seen them branch out into the world of motherboards, and today they launched two new additions. The NZXT N5 Z690 is the more affordable of the two and hasn’t got that famous, sleek, white armour that is the hallmark of the NZXT range, whilst for a tiny bit extra you can get the full on N7 Z690 model, which has the armour and a much more serious feature set too. We know we’re a few hours post launch so without further ado let’s take a look at them and then see how they perform.

The first three (of six) 4-pin fan headers are found on both sides of the DRAM slots. Here are the CPU_FAN, AIO_PUMP and SYS_FAN 3 headers. Each header auto-detects if a 4-pin PWM or 3-pin DC fan is in use and supports up to 2A(24W) each. You control the attached devices through the BIOS or the CAM software. Just off to the right are four POST LEDs that light up as the board boots. If the CPU, RAM, VGA or BOOT fails during POST, the corresponding LED remains lit and tells you, generically, where the problem exists. But for real, we’ve been busy cranking out some sweet components that we’re stoked to share with you.

PCIe x16: 3 (Single - PCIe_1: Gen 5 x16 mode / Dual - PCIe_1: Gen 5 x16; PCIe_3: Gen 4 x4 / Triple - PCIe_1: Gen 5 x16; PCIe_3: Gen 4 x4; PCIe_5: Gen 3 x1)

The N Series Motherboards include key features from our RGB and Fan Controller, allowing intuitive control of four RGB lighting channels and seven fan channels through NZXT CAM. Lighting accessories from all manufacturers are supported. NZXT have long been the purveyors of excellent cases and, with their Kraken range, some fantastic CPU cooling options too.The NZXT N7 series launched with a unique design thanks in part to the metal shroud that covers the PCB. The N5 series is a little more budget-friendly and ditches this shroud, which makes the N5 Z690 look more like your average motherboard. One thing neither of these motherboards has is RGB lighting. The N series motherboards include WiFi 6E connectivity and utilize all PCI express lanes available from the CPU and chipset. The N7 and N5’s layout streamlines installation with an integrated rear I/O shield and optimally placed headers for easier setup. Showcasing the fantastic connectivity and header placement. (Image credit: Rich Edmonds / Windows Central) There’s plenty of PCIe connectivity in the middle of the board, including three full-length slots and two x1 slots. The top slot connects through the CPU and runs at PCIe 5.0 x16. The bottom two full-length slots attach through the chipset, with the top running at a maximum of PCIe 4.0 x4 and the bottom slot PCIe 3.0 x1. This setup supports 2-Way AMD Crossfire. With the N-series of motherboards, NZXT wants to keep you within its ecosystem. All NZXT motherboards support the company's CAM software, allowing one to manage different aspects of not only the mainboard but all other connected smart NZXT devices.
