Description

I loved his down-to-earth style and philosophy of life, especially how he used the "little difficulties" to positive effect. I wanted to look back at all its fun and all its misery and struggle, its comedy, its drama, its romance and its tragedy and find in this long and eventful life the lessons I've learned. Caine has also clearly worked very hard, and he wants his readers to know that he’s never taken his success for granted. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

Hollywood legend and British national treasure Sir Michael Caine, now 85, shares stories from screen and stage alongside some of the lessons and skills that life has taught him. In reality, it has been one huge learning curve, from his unlikely beginnings as the son of a Billingsgate fish porter to pursuing his dream of being an actor, finding success and managing every twist, trick and turn to stay at the top of his game. Even if you aren't a fan of his movies, which doubt there are many, there are some powerful life lessons inside.Sir Michael Caine CBE has been Oscar-nominated six times, winning his first Academy Award for the 1986 film Hannah and Her Sisters and his second in 1999 for The Cider House Rules .

I might have given the book four stars for a bit of repetitiveness, but I found I wasn't qualified to credit Michael Caine's life with fewer than five. To be fair, I'm sure most narrators have episodes like these, but usually the editing is better and another take of the sentence in question is done to fix it. One of our best-loved actors, Michael Caine has starred in over 100 films in his six-decade career, spanning classic movies like Alfie, Zulu, and The Italian Job (the inspiration for the book title) to playing Alfred opposite Christian Bale’s Batman in Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster Dark Knight trilogy. There's something refreshingly wholesome about Caine's unpretentious attitude, even if it doesn't always make for the most thrilling reading. The life lessons he extrapolates from these early years will certainly stand readers in good stead, but they're also all pretty standard. I have done everything I wanted to do, been everywhere I wanted to go and met everyone I have ever wanted to meet. Michael Caine, 85, reminisces fondly about his life in his book "Blowing the Bloody Doors Off," published Tuesday Oct. From left to right, Margaret Blye as Lorna, Benny Hill as Professor Peach, Michael Caine as Charlie Croker, Michael Standing as Arthur and Raf Vallone as Altabani in Paramount Pictures' 'The Italian Job', 1969.
